7/11 is still in WV but Sheetz is the big tine convience store here, based in Altoona, PA. Are they in your area of KY. I like Sheetz....
I seen the KFC thing too, I back PL. just because we are not as old as you are does not mean we do not know about those days...
No, most of our convient stores are Minit Marts or run by Marathon or Shell gas stations. I don't really know of any that are just a convience store without the gas station around here.
Huck's, Pilots and Loves are also big around here. Along with Casey's General Stores.
I know pilot and Love's. Nearest one is in Wytheville, 35 miles away from here...
Exactly, all I have to do is ask people older than myself. Heck, my husband's aunt lived until last year and she was 102 when she passed away and was still very with it. One of the first University of Kentucky graduates with a degree in Latin as a woman.
K-Mart was created in 1962 from SS Kresge (sp?) who had a store in Bluefield WV until Kmart came to that town..DYK that Kmart, Walmart and Target were all created in 1962 and all were spun off from the five and dime and were positioned for the suburban shopper?
The history of Walmart, an American discount department store chain, began in 1950 when businessman Sam Walton purchased a store from Luther E. Harrison in Bentonville, Arkansas, and opened Walton's 5 & 10. ... The company introduced its warehouse club chain Sam's Club in 1983 and its first Supercenter stores in 1988.Learn more at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Walmart
It is a shame that the Walmart today was not how Sam Walton wanted it but greed does a lot to people and families.
Sam Walton was responsible for today's Walmart, it was big just before he died and he had everything to do with ir..
I know the history well. It moved from the five and dime in 1962, the first one in Rogers, AR that same year and called it Walmart Discount City. A lot of such stores moved from the five and dime in downtown to suburbs and plenty of retail space they could never get in the central business districts..
Wawa, the convinience store? Many people do not know the existence of that place, they are big in Maryland area I was born in...
