I miss having Shoney's around here. They had some kind of banana strawberry conconcotation that it helped when my mom had cancer that we could put her medication in and she would take it. Funny, how some things make you remember family.

I have a new respect for you. I'm assuming your mom is a survivor? My wife is a survivor.

Shoney's is a dying business that will go under within another few years, it is an antique business model itself at this time in the early 21st century.

I didn't think there were any left. One opened near exit 5 of the NJ Turnpike. I don't think it lasted a year.

I disagree. I was trying to indicate how long ago it was when I lived in Kentucky. You picked on the KFC thing.
Nope, you were the one who was claiming you knew so much and then it was proven you didn't.  No one does but you like to think you do.

No, she didn't survive. It came back after her being in remission in 1993 and she only lived for 9 months. Cancer has no mercy or shows any favoritism.

I am so sorry to hear that. Please accept my deepest sympathy. My wife is a breast cancer survivor. So far so good.

Nope, all I said was I a lived in Kentucky when KFC was kind of new in an attempt to illustrate how long ago it was. A poor illustration, I admit.  I didn't think KFC was all that important to anyone.

No, your attempt to try and show how long ago failed when it was shown that it had been around longer than you think. There are a few private owned restaurants that aren't owned by any corporations. Kind of an oddity in today's times.

Aw, c'mon. I said it was a poor illustration. Gimme a break.  ;)

I didn't know what a K-Mart was until I lived in Kentucky.  Never saw one before. Saw my first auto record payer there also. I guess 8 tracks knocked them out.

You must have lived in the sticks because Kmart wasn't even the most popular store in Kentucky. It was a Big K and it was taken over by Kmart. Woolworth's and Woolco were top stores also.

It was between Ft. Knox and Louisville somewhere. It was the sticks to me.

Woolworths was still open up north.

K-Mart was created in 1962 from SS Kresge (sp?) who had a store in Bluefield WV until Kmart came to that town..

DYK that Kmart, Walmart and Target were all created in 1962 and all were spun off from the five and dime and were positioned for the suburban shopper?

7/11 is still in WV but Sheetz is the big tine convience store here, based in Altoona, PA. Are they in your area of KY. I like Sheetz....
