The question should read as, “why is he peddling the conservative Christian nonsense that we’ve all heard before?”
His point was moot from the beginning. And I for one do not believe in Santa.
I believe he was trying for the goal of teaching you a lesson by way of conservatism.
Did it work?
He forgot how much even Liberals (that dirty word) too are just as concerned with their mates and offspring as much as any “holier than thou” Christian conservative.

Personally I think he was just trying for the knee jerk emotional response he always tries to get from me, he knows he cant teach an old dog new tricks but its fun to see him try. And yes Virgina there is a Santa Clause
