I was walking around the beaches of Marathon Florida in the Keys... when I came upon this water filled stone quary. It was now a beautiful lake. I looked and saw 2 or 3 Model T Ford cars sunk to the bottom... the water was so clear. Then I looked to the other side and discovered a neud beach. There was a naked dude standing... so I turned my head not wanting to see that. When I looked back, I saw a beautiful naked blonde chick... still looking. LOL!

I was walking back to town from the neud beach back to town Marathon... when a car of teenage boys pulled up next to me. I knew immediatly they were trouble trying to start something with me.

They asked me how to get back to town. I decided to act stoned and said... "I don't think you can get there from here". They all laughed and drove off thinking I was a fool... or was I?

Then the worst happened... I was working with this big african american fellow... he was huge... but he seemed to like me and looked out for me on the job. I did notice however he had some anger issues which he displayed by slinging about the dumpsters throwing them into the hotel walls.

As a newby he asked me where I was staying. I said I had rented a vacation cabin which is all I could find at a good rate. He proceeded to say that he could get me a place for less than half the price I was paying. I was innnocent enough and needed to be cheap... so I took him up on the place. This landed me in the gehto and an all african neighborhood of the island. Not what I expected, but affordable.

I did not mind... they all treated me well, it was cheap... and if I stood on my tippy toes in the bathroom window I could actually see the ocean! This worked well for several months, untill out of the blue the fellow came knocking at my door.

He said he wouild like to sleep at my place tonight. I said what. Then he said he would like to sleep in my bed. I said what. Then he said he would like to sleep with me. I said what! This was not the guy from work I thought I knew!

I then invited the fellow to leave. I then quickly packed my bags... which was only one little back pack. Then I hit the road as fast as I could. I had to quit the best job of my life and happy home and left the country to get away from this pervert. He was a giant of man, but I feared him then like no other.  I escaped by the skin of my teeth.

Moral of story...  trust no man... no matter what your sex

With all the drama taking place... I prayed. God where do I go, where do you want me to be. I awoke to a word from God. God told me to hit the road hitchhicking again. I did so with this prayer... "Lord, may the first car to stop to pick me up, may that person lead me to where I am to go"

Serious... don't miss this... I lived in my van in this church parking lot for 4 months. I did find work though and worked the whole time at what was then known as Gran'ts Department Store. I have not seen one such store since. I lived in my van... I was not dirty... I took sponge baths in my van & washed my hair regular... and I peed in a can. I survived on popcorn. You do what you gotta do to survive homeless.
You were a good survivor and did whatever it took to get by and I admire you for that, Mr Cowface, and your stories are appreciated. 🙂

I had many patients in my work who were on weekly Dialysis. I visited a number of them during Dialysis for case management. Seeing the machines hooked up to them and seeing/hearing their blood being circulated through tubes was an eye opener! I would hear reports of 1 gallon of water being removed... yikes! Sad stories of having to be at Dialysis at 5 am and hooked up for 3-4 hrs. I had one patient who was in a wheelchair and had to be picked up by ambulance 3 days a week for Dialysis. This must be very difficult in itself. I later went for a home visit and found her in tears. She said that the day before the ambulance got stuck in her remote country driveway and she was told if she did not get some gravel hauled in to her driveway they would not return to pick her up. She said she had  laid in the back of that ambulance stuck in her own driveway for two hours until another could come pick her up. She said she could not afford gravel at her rented home and she will die without Dialysis. I broke my company rules not to speak of religion and I offered to pray with her... with tears streaming down her face said "please do". I prayed briefly with her. Then I asked for information about her landlord, and for permission to speak with landlord about gravel for her driveway. She said "please do". The landlord lived just up the road... so there I went. In a short time a load of gravel was delivered and Dialysis continued. Her prayers were answered.

Moral of the story.... prayers can be answered for you too

Years ago I walked across the road from my house into the woods hunting. I made my usual trek towards the river.  I walked and walked, but after a good time I had not yet reached the river. I continued to walk and to my surprise I came upon an unexpected road which was not supposed to be there. So I stepped out onto the road trying to figure out where I was. The road seemed unrecognizable to me... until I looked down the road and saw my own house. Under cloud cover and no visible sun to guide my trek toward the river... I had instead walked in a big circle back to my own road. Not expecting to see the road I lived on... it then appeared totaly unfamiliar to me.

Moral of story... the path chosen to walk into the woods... always appears different on the way out

We have a mystery and need advice. We live in a campground. An ambulance came and picked up our next door neighbor's wife two weeks ago Monday... she passed away Wenesday two week ago of a stroke. The neighbor man put his 3 dogs to a boarding kennel that day we assume because we have not seen them since. After the woman's death the man went back into his camper and never came out again.

I went to see him 5 days ago and took him a sympathy card. He spoke little and was obviously grieving. That was the last we seen of him. There has been no movement or sign of life nextdoor since. The funural was in Oklahoma Friday where they were from. We saw no movement of the man to go to the funeral and both their cars are still there. No sign that he took a flight from Ohio to Oklahoma for the funeral.

It rained all last week and I noticed his car window was left half down. I tried twice two different days to knock on his door to check on him and let him know. No answer or sound from the camper in a week.  Mail packages are now pileing up out side his door step. I contacted the park manager and asked they try to contact him by phone and we have heard nothing back.

So last night I went to the door and knocked again and even tried to open the door but it was locked. I even moved his lawn chair over next to a window and looked inside but saw nothing. I could not see in the bedroom. We feel he may have taken his life out of grief and is laying in the camper dead.

We thought of calling the sheriff to make a well check on the man... but the park manager said to wait... saying maybe somone took the man to the airport and he is still in Oklahoma visiting family. Both their vehicles are here and would have been the best way to get the airport... so we doubt he ever left.

We are concerned feeling there is a dead man in the camper next to us and no one is doing anything about it. Your thoughts?

Back home in northern Ohio back in 72 until age 21 we could only buy what we called low beer 3.2% which was like drinking water. So we used to make weekend booze runs 30 miles north across Michigan State line to buy high beer and liquir with a bit more kick.  I liked to buy cherry vodka.

We had not quite made it to Michigan and I was driving with 3 of my buddies along. It was dark and suddenly a deer ran out on the road in front of me. I instinctivly tapped the brakes... but at that moment hit a stretch of black ice.  The car began weaving back and forth while I continued to try and dodge the deer... when suddenly while the car was now sideways in the road... the black ice ended and hitting dry pavement sent the car plunging headlong into the ditch.

The car took quite a hit totalled out, and so did all of us inside. I was the only one with an injury... a broken wrist given by the steering wheel. It was the dead of winter and through the cold we walked up to a neighboring house and asked to borrow the phone to call for help. The family took one look at us bunch of hoodlems and while they let us place a call... left us to stand out in the freezing cold for the next two hours.

Help came and took us back to town where we went to the local bar and drowned our sorrows with beers. My broken wrist was throbbing baddly so I drank more beers... it would not be until the next day that I was able to make it to the Dr. and had a cast put on.

Month later a buddy and I decided to drive to Florida to get away from the Ohio winter. First thing we did when at our warm Florida motel was to take a swim in the the pool. Problem was I had a plaster cast on my wrist.  So I tied a bread sack around my hand and wrist and went for a swim. It looked like that would work but it did not... and the cast melted and fell off.

Moral of story... drink and be merry and forget about your broken hand

You should call the police and have them do a welfare check. It’s what I would’ve done.
I’m so sorry.

He might be alright, yet the fear and worries of the worst would get the better of me, so I’d call.

My thoughts are with your family and the old gentleman that's living next to you.
That’s so sad..and I feel so sorry for him.

Thanks, I know this is such a weird situation. We look out our windows a hundred times a day and I walk our dog as close as I can without looking suspicious... but the manager keeps saying what if he flew out to Oklahoma for the funeral. But I say why are both his cars still here. We are getting desperate here wondering. Thanks for your reply.

As a kid riding in the car with Dad... I loved the smell when Dad lit a cigarett with a zippo lighter! Rides in the car are fond memories for me. The first family car from my memory was a black 1951 Chevrolet... it was huge inside. Mom could not stand me and my brother hanging on the back of the seats trying to see over... so she made us seats. Mom saved four tomato juice cans and sewed them together into a square seat for each of us. So there we sat in back upon Mom's homemade tomato can seats. Today I appreciate Mom's efforts, but I wonder about her construction choices. A cardboard box or beer case would have sufficed for a child seat for me.

My daughter is turning 40 and we have been somewhat close from a distance by text, but not as close as I desire. We were not too close when she was a teenager... because I was a firm dad and she a wild teenage girl. Now 20 years later things are brewing.

I felt very honored in recent months when my daughter contacted me... which is rare... and began to confide in me and actually asked for my fatherly advice. She told me her 15 yr old daughter... my grandaughter had come out to be gay. She at 15 is involved in a relationship with an older 18 yr old girl. My daughter also expressed religeous beliefs against homosexuality and my daughter was in great turmoil over allowing this open gay relationship and request to be together dating.

I found myself with the deepest questions of my life... from my own now grown daughter. I had to think quickly before I answered. My answer was to not drive her daughter away, but accept her gay lifestyle... love her... keep open to her... but perhaps monitor her dating of this 18 yr old just as anyone would of a male.

I told my daughter that I had never permitted her at 15 to date... and certainly not an 18 year old. I reminded my daughter that I had driven off two older suiters... and one I did so with a hammer in my hand.  So I advised my daughter to treat the situation as if the dater was a boy in view of age.

Your thoughts????
This is a tough one. But there isn’t much in the way of age. But, I do see your dilemma.

I didn’t allow my daughter to date until she was 16, but she was monitored by way of an app on her phone so I could keep track of her, and, of course she had to be back at the time, so it worked out well. However, your granddaughter is a 15/yo and wants to date an 18/yo? I’d think the 18/yo may want to rethink this through...unless of course she has the parents permission.

Sure. They are both young women, so they’d hardly get pregnant, but one is a young adult and the other is still a child.

This really is none of my business, but I think you steered your daughter in the right direction.

You and the wife are concerned, and why would you not be? I would.
Besides..wouldn’t he have told the manager or anyone of his whereabouts in Oklahoma?

And if you don’t mind....can you let me know if he is found?

I feel for all parties involved.
This is so sad..

And I think a cardboard box would be easier on the body thank an old can that’ll cut you to pieces.
