I quit smoking when my first grandchild graced my arms, but I have been known to vape every now and then..
Tell me more about your wild life..
I quit smoking 40 years ago for my son's 1st birthday. All my life I have had the strangest feeling that I will live to be the oldest man in the world. My family physician once told me after an exam... that if I don't take up a couple bad habits that I will live forever.

So I took up drinking after 25 years of sobriety.  Now 12 years later I am in the best health of my life. I am not sure I want to live forever so I am searching for another bad habit as doctor ordered.

The large potatoe wrapped in tin foil is now cooling on top of the stove soon to be moved to chill in the Figidare... story to be continued... the travels of a baked potatoe

Potato story continued.... today I took my special baked potato out of the refrigerator. It was now perfect to be halved and sliced for the frying pan.

In the meantime the pretty little Mrs.Cowface was working side by side of me making her world famous deviled eggs. While I was frying the potato my Mrs. Cowface completed a nice batch of stuffed mushrooms and fried us a couple of hotdogs... all of which complimented the now crispy golden fried potato quite nicely. Our meal was devine.

Moral of this story may be obvious that baking the potato first makes for much better home fries... or the couple that cooks together stays together... but the moral of this story is a hidden one...

The moral of story... how do you spell it... potatoe or potato?

But enough about silly potato stories... I was just passing the time with that. Let's get serious going back to when it all began back in 1965 when my whole life changed and I changed forever... good boy gone bad... the wild side was born.  I blame it all on an ingrown toe nail when I forsook God and renounced Him. I learned several years later that it is impossible to renounce God... He came back looking for me. Took a few years but God prevailed. That is another story... maybe 12 stories right there.

So having the grips of hell clining to my soul... I left my home and all that I knew back in 72. I left in my van headed to Florida for a new life... but I only made it as far as Lexington KY. There I stopped for the night to regroup and think things through. My Dad pleaded with me not to leave... but upon my insistance as I drove off... he handed me a book. It was a church directory. He said wherever you go... look in this book and find a church. I listended to Dad's advise... and camped in Lexington KY desperate and alone I looked in Dad's church directory and found a church nearby. This became my salvation.

So feeling lost, I consulted Dad's church drectory. I found a Rev. Louis Brighton pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church, Lexington KY. So there I went. Pastor Brighton invited me to church Sunday and allowed me to park my van in the church parking lot... where I lived for the next 4 months.

While in Lexington KY I learned from Pastor Brightons kids that there was a really cool Jesus People Commune in down town Lexington. This appealed to me so I sought entrance. I was heard and accepted into the commune. I lived in this Jesus People Commune for the next 9 months. Here is where I got my foundation for life and living. It was called Christ Center and was started by two seminary students from Asbury Seminary just out side of town. This led me to the huge outdoor live weekend concert there called Icthuse. There I discovered High Bridge and took the walk accross... to which led to my hitch hithhicking days... the road calls... I answered.

Serious... don't miss this... I lived in my van in this church parking lot for 4 months. I did find work though and worked the whole time at what was then known as Gran'ts Department Store. I have not seen one such store since. I lived in my van... I was not dirty... I took sponge baths in my van & washed my hair regular... and I peed in a can. I survived on popcorn. You do what you gotta do to survive homeless.

Life in the Lexington commune was better... it was great. All were friends and helpful to the community. We all woke up early for prayer time and Bible devotions... then we broke up for assigned duties before breakfast. I usally was assigned to clean bathrooms or pick up around outside around the grounds... which I liked the best being outside. The commune life was great where we all lived in common for the good of all. Our commune was downtown Lexington in an old abandonded shool house. I loved the smell of tobbacco lane just up the street where tobacco was brought in to be auctioned off... even better I loved the smell of the whisky distillery nearby... ahhh!

I played my time out at the commune life for my time... then I felt like moving on to explore the world further. So I took to hitchhicking. I travelled mainly in the South because I liked the sun and wanted to stay warm. Florida became my treading grounds... and oh what glory!

I gave my car to a chick at the commune. She needed a ride to go to work. I only paid a $100 dollars for it and I had not used it in 9 months while living at the comune. So I said more power to her... take the car... live long and prosper.

Then a few weeks later the chick came to me and said... the car won't go. I checked the car out and I said to the chick... do you have a hair pin? She said yes and handed me a hair pin. I placed the hair pin into the gear shift linkage and reconnected it to the transmission. The car has moved and run perfect ever since.

Moral of the story... yes, you can fix everything with a hair pin

I did eventually leave the commune... although reluctently cause I loved all those people and my life there. But life was calling me... the whole big world outside. So I hopped on my bicycle and I rode out of town until I came to a rail road track. I walked the rail road track until I cam to a big highway. So then I walked the highway until I came to a big city... it was called Louiville.

Once in Louiville I felt very out of place and no where to belong and it was night... so I found a church and I crawled up under the bushes next to the church and I slept there under the bushes for the night. I felt safe there. I think those church bushes was probably the safest place I ever slept while I was on the road. Amen, thank God for church bushes!

So I headed for my ultimate destination...  Florida! Yeah... I did finally make it to sunny Florida! I headed straight to the Florida Keys.  I wanted to live in Key West... but it was too touristy for me. This lead me to the middled Key of Marathon. I found a job quickly working on a garbage truck. The best job of my entire life to this very day. You go to work at 4 am and get off at 1 pm and best of all the garbage truck travelled across all the Keys including Key West!

I wanted to see and live in the Keys. I rode clinging to the back of a garbage truck seeing it all. The garbage truck job allowed me to do this... that and they actually paid me to do it! Yeah... pay me to have fun! Get this... at Christmas the Florida islanders actually put gifts for us under the garbage lids... like bottles of whisky! They did this of course of course so we garbage men would look out for them and pick up any mess a dog may have made... which we did... we looked out for them. Another bottle of whiskey please... hear ya go.

While working on the garbage truck in Marathon FL I found a little cabin rental to live. It was beautiful made of all knotty pine inside, I loved it. The landlords were an elderly couple. They offored me a discount for doing yard work which I readily complied. The did however warn me to be aware of the poisenouse critter called scorpians.  I met one right away in my shower the first time I showered. Then I met several more while gardening... but none dare bite me.

One day I saw the same man I had seen in Key West walking down the road with a blue painted suit case that had written upon it... "No Jesus". He was weird and did not talk. I wanted to pick his brain so I invited him home with me with the option of some work. I gave him some work, which he did. He still never talked. He went on his way, but the landlord said not to invite strangers there again.

I met another stranger in Key West.  He was dressed in a white robe with long hair and beard looking like Jesus. He was on the other side of the street. I purposly walked across the street to meet this new day Jesus. He said "I'ts all coming down soon... we don't eat the little animals... we all are equal with the little animals... we could all be coming back as one of them.

I crossed back to my side of the street and moved along my own way...
