What did you expect?

DC experiences ‘Code Red’ air quality after massive fireworks display

Residents of Washington, DC, on Sunday briefly experienced the worst air quality of any major city in the world, according to a company that ranks pollution globally, as the capital reckoned with the aftermath of a massive, 40-minute Fourth of July fireworks show.

City officials issued a Code Red Air Quality Alert, asking residents to limit time outside, with a warning that the air is “unhealthy for seniors, kids, people with medical conditions” and that the general public may experience health issues.

DC slipped down to No. 26 on the air quality monitoring platform, IQAir, by 5:30 p.m. ET Sunday.

It was impressive, but only by shear volume. I think it would have been better with fewer bigger shells.

With all his attempts to rewrite history

White House report accuses Smithsonian leadership of radical ideology
The White House has accused Smithsonian Institution leadership of adopting a divisive ideological framework that erases American heritage.
CNN · cnn.com

During President Donald Trump’s second administration, the world’s largest museum institution and a key voice in shaping the narrative of America’s history has been under pressure to remove “woke” ideology, even though it operates as a unique public-private trust and does not consider itself an executive agency.

“For more than 180 years, the Smithsonian has served the American public with nonpartisan and independent scholarship, and we remain committed to doing so,” a Smithsonian spokesperson told CNN on Sunday.

Follows a March 2025 executive order titled “Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History,” which sought to combat what the White House calls “historical revisions” that cast the country’s history in a negative light. The order set off changes to cultural institutions across the country including national parks and monuments. As a result, Trump’s aides have been tasked with rooting out what it considers anti-American propaganda at the institution.

The White House report alleges the leadership at the National Museum of American History, in particular, has been captured by a “radical, activist ideology” that is in opposition of the nation’s “noble, honest story.” The report hinges on several key findings, including a lack of attention paid to America’s founders, educational materials on gender fluidity and a crusade against “whiteness.”

That's funny because Trump is the revisionist.

If you said So What?  it seems Trump may want to impose his own team and leader of Smithsonian is African-American
Read last paragraph about what that leader said about not running away from history

A White House report brands the leadership of the Smithsonian Institution, especially at the National Museum of American History, as radical activists who cannot be trusted, indicating that President Donald Trump may be preparing to install his own team.

The report released late on Independence Day by the White House Domestic Policy Council comes in the midst of Trump’s aggressive campaign to overhaul some of Washington’s most sacred cultural and historic institutions. Trump in March revealed his intention to force changes at the Smithsonian Institution with an executive order that targeted funding for programs that advanced “divisive narratives” and “improper ideology,” as he continued a broadside against culture he deems too liberal.

“The Smithsonian Institution, and the National Museum of American History in particular, under its current leadership and current interpretive ideology, cannot be trusted to tell America’s story honestly and in a way that is inspiring, unifying, and worthy of our great republic,” according to the report by the council, which is led by a former top Trump speechwriter.

The authors added: “As this report shows, confirmed in the words of Museum leadership, this ideological capture has moved the Museum’s mission away from straightforward historical education and scholarship toward an extreme political activism that seeks to transform our country.”

The Smithsonian did not immediately respond to requests for comment Sunday.

Historian Lonnie Bunch, the Smithsonian’s current secretary, is the first African American to lead the institution. In an unrelated interview that aired Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Bunch said “the notion of being a more perfect union, not the perfect union, is really what motivates me.”

“I think what I want people to understand is that there is a responsibility to continue to make those aspirations available, accessible, meaningful to a whole range of people,” Bunch said. “And that, in essence, America’s greatest strength, it’s not running away from its history, but it’s understanding how that history shaped us and continues to shape us.”

The heck with Constitution

Congress should restrict birthright citizenship, House speaker says

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson said in a July 5 Fox News interview that Congress should take up a legislative effort to curtail birthright citizenship in the wake of the Supreme Court striking down an executive order from President Donald Trump that sought to redefine who is an American.

The Louisiana Republican said on "Fox News Sunday" that the current immigration system is being abused by "birthright tourism" and said that the practice has "devalued" citizenship.(Posted from another story earlier that estimates are 2,000-39,000 a year of birth out of millions born)

"It’s a threat to the rule of law and national security. We do need to address it,” Johnson said.(Apparently you're a threat if not white)

He did not say what piece of legislation would address the matter but that Republicans are "looking at all angles."

"If there is a bill that can fix that, we’ll advance that immediately,” Johnson said.
