r/DiscussionZone - A Republican Senator Stood Up to Trump's Face in a Room Full of GOP Colleagues, Refused to Sit Down When Ordered To, and Said "I Am Not Going to Be Bullied" Trump Called Him a Lunatic
this happened yesterday in a private lunch between trump and senate republicans at the capitol.
Trump asked the room why any republican would vote for the war powers resolution that limits his military authority in iran. Senator bill cassidy of louisiana stood up and answered.
"You have not told the american people what's going on," cassidy told the president directly. "It was supposed to last four weeks. It's lasted four months. Our original objectives have not been achieved."
Trump raised his voice. Cassidy raised his back.
Trump told him to sit down. Cassidy refused.
Trump called him a lunatic in front of dozens of republican senators.
Cassidy called trump "brother" at one point trying to de-escalate. Trump told him he wasn't his brother.
Eventually cassidy sat down, but only because his own colleagues next to him quietly asked him to.
Afterward cassidy told reporters he had no regrets. "I'm not going to be bullied when i'm trying to get answers for the american people. I make no apologies for standing up to the president."
The kicker: trump already ended cassidy's political career earlier this year by backing his primary opponent. Cassidy lost his senate seat last month. He literally has nothing left to lose.
And senate majority leader john thune, the most powerful republican in the senate, sat through the entire 70 minute meeting and said nothing.

Trump called a Republican senator a lunatic to his face. The senator refused to sit down. Here's everything that happened inside the closed door GOP lunch.

Is a lame duck senator the only republican willing to say out loud what everyone else is thinking?..."
