It goes back further than Dubya and his band of idiots, they just benefited from the arrangement which was created by the lifting of the Fairness Doctrine in 1987 which went into law by the FCC in the 1940s before the then medium of television took off. That lifting is why we have trash disguised as "news" today. That lifting is why Fox News was created, lifting occured a couple years after Murdoch's News Corpse, a foreign entity, bought 20th Centry Fox. It enabled them to benefit from deregulation of airwaves, allowing them to lie and perform legalized slander for political gain..
There was misinfo back in the 1920's caused by GOP control of congress that whole decade, which led to the depression, that was always around but Dubya was the first president to preside over a total GOP congress (Reagan had 6 year control of only the Senate)since 1954, the party could not do much until Reagan lifted the FD by Executive order and that is why the news media has been garbage since.
There has always been gov't control of media, esp since 1963 and that mess with JFK BS passed off as truth, it was way before then..
