Agreed. That place was full of very toxic people that didn’t need to be there. They put the forum into ruins.

That place was toxic from the beginning, many of those incidents stem from the late 2000's and  early 2010's. It started falling around 2013-14 as Facebook got more popular and people were tired of the place. I was there almost  a decade, I could talk well and defend myself to the point noone could run me off....

Found this on Wikipedia, quote:

“A. G. Sulzberger of The New York Times wrote that "The same Web sites created as places for candid talk about local news and politics are also hubs of unsubstantiated gossip, stirring widespread resentment in communities where ties run deep, memories run long and anonymity is something of a novel concept".[9] He added that "Whereas online negativity seems to dissipate naturally in a large city, it often grates like steel wool in a small town where insults are not easily forgotten".[9] Various local governments censured the Topix forums. Many lawsuits resulted from content posted on Topix.[9]

On February 3, 2009, Mark and Rhonda Lesher filed a lawsuit against anonymous posters on Topix.com. According to their petition, over 1,700 defamatory statements were made about them by anonymous posters, resulting in 2,568 allegations of defamation and libel. Although Topix was not a party to the lawsuit, it was forced to reveal the IP addresses of the posters.[11][12]

Initially Topix charged money to people who requested that Topix expedite the removal of negative posts. After thirty state attorneys general protested, Topix stopped charging. Jack Conway, the Kentucky Attorney General, said the charging scheme "smacked of having to pay a fee to get your good name back".[8]

On March 20, 2012, online gossip was the subject of a story called "Innocent Man's Life Destroyed by Anonymous Topix Poster" on Good Morning America. Topix CEO Chris Tolles was interviewed for the piece.[13]”

In Corbin Ky.forum, Tristan Hall posting as "Series as a Heart Attack" offered 5,000$ for someone to kill local radio personality Melissa Hall. Cops tracked her IP down and arrested her.
She spent 570 days in a detention center and home confinement. When the charges were dropped she sued the cops. Right at that time Topix took itself down. Thinking they were next to be sued,I don't know. But the timing was highly convenient. There were other cases of members suing each other, and complaints that Topix did nothing to protect it's users from the psychos it's anonymity attracted. I think this last drama occurred in 2018. That's what I found on Google anyway. There were rumors of suicides occurring from Topix posts. But I can't confirm that. The forum I was on was incredibly vicious.

Got it. You just don’t know.

This sounds more realistic. Topix just couldn’t afford to keep up the grand facade.

I think you’re right. That place was terrible when I arrived at about 2015. I started on the human sexuality forum which was probably one of the most popular forums on Topix. But I didn’t stay for very long.
People there were rude, nasty, hateful, spiteful, with some of the worst scumbags of any other forum you could find; and I didn’t really like all the pretense people came with when many like myself just wanted friends or someone to have good conversations with, which was few and far between. Many got ran off, or left altogether because of all the trolls there. That’s where that nice lady NorCalNative came and asked if I’d like to join her on her forum for conversations, games and the like. I joined her and some other's there and managed to mingle my way around to a couple other’s when invited.

I don’t normally like confrontations, but I’ve learned from a few friends on how to defend myself without any real damage to either party as a whole: and a couple I leaned this from was on the Old Topix. They were good people while some other’s just liked getting to anyone they could, and just for the sake of arguments. It was way too ridiculous for my liking, and at the time I couldn’t really defined myself very well and took lessons from a couple who I still hold much respect and admiration for. My per usual stance was to just back off and come back later. But that didn’t work as well as I hoped on that site of venomous vipers you had to put up with on a day to day basis. So I ended up going to just a few forums that were actually moderated where I could spend some time with friends there who I actually got along with. Very good people that I’m glad to call my friends.

So not all of Topix was overrun with trolls because I had some really good conversations there and I wish some of them would come here. They are good people that I get to know some of them through PM. And I’ve told you about one of them in particular who also, like yourself, could handle himself very well on that forum. lol!

Oh, and did I say that’s where I found the love of my life? 😁

So typical and why I don’t like you. You’re so full of yourself.

If you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem.

Remember when crazy Kooks was going to report me to a boss even though I had posted I was retired and she also said that she was  contacting Social Services on me about my kids. I told her go ahead, I knew the Social workers, judges and attorneys in this town. That really pissed her off and got her banned along with making threats to Cooterdog.

The blackouts are connected to my heart problem.Which they assure me they can fix with open heart surgery in May. A graft in my upper thoracic aneurysm.
