This is new Waco as a matter of fact just published by Politico

Maine Democrats plan nomination convention to choose Platner replacement
The convention would include roughly 600 elected delegates.
07/08/2026, 7:51pm ET

The Maine Democratic Party approved tentative plans for a nominating convention in the event Senate candidate Graham Platner drops out of the race, it announced Wednesday evening.

The convention would include roughly 600 people who would be selected by county-level Democratic committees, according to two people familiar with the specific plans and granted anonymity to share them. Every county committee would have to meet prior to the state nominating convention to elect 500 of those delegates, and the 100 current state committee members will also serve as delegates. State committee members voted to approve the plan Wednesday evening at the end of a lengthy emergency meeting.

It’s unclear if that plan would satisfy the Platner campaign’s demand for “the supporters and volunteers who built this movement” to have “a real role” in the process to name his successor on the ticket to take on GOP Sen. Susan Collins this fall.
(Platner in no position to make any demands. )

Graham Platner expected to speak Wednesday as his team feuds with Maine Democratic Party
07/08/2026, 3:02pm ET

Graham Platner is expected to speak Wednesday as his campaign publicly spars with the Maine Democratic Party over how to proceed should he drop his embattled Senate bid.

A senior campaign aide said on a 1 p.m. call with Platner’s team that the Democratic nominee is expected to speak at some point Wednesday, according to a person familiar with the call granted anonymity to relay private campaign conversations. It was not immediately clear whether Platner would be addressing staff or making a public statement, or what he planned to say.

Platner has faced intense pressure to exit the race against GOP Sen. Susan Collins and make way for a new nominee after POLITICO exclusively reported Monday that a woman he dated accused him of sexually assaulting her nearly five years ago. Platner has denied the allegations.

His team, meanwhile, further escalated its battle with the state Democratic Party on Wednesday over the process of selecting his replacement on the ballot if he drops out.

In a text message to volunteers, Platner campaign manager Ben Chin accused the Maine Democratic Party of allowing the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee to “send staffers to plan a potential nominating process behind closed doors” and of cutting Platner’s team and supporters out of the process. The missive came after the state party put out a statement Tuesday night accusing Platner’s campaign staff of repeatedly attempting to “put their thumb on the scale” in the process of selecting his replacement.

Mitch McConnell’s absence is throwing Trump’s Pentagon budget boost in doubt
The former GOP leader has been absent as the bipartisan appropriations process he helps oversee has run aground.

McConnell — who chairs the Senate Appropriations panel that controls Pentagon spending — has been a powerful critic of the administration’s approach to securing a $1.5 trillion boost for the military. His support will be key in moving any funding plan forward, and his absence could stall or kill those hopes.

Trump to ask Supreme Court to reconsider birthright citizenship case

President Donald Trump said he plans to ask the Supreme Court to rehear the recently decided birthright citizenship case after the Supreme Court ruled against his efforts to undo the long-standing principle that all individuals born in the U.S. are American citizens.

"This miscarriage of justice will destroy America if they don’t change their absolutely insane decision," Trump said in a post on Truth Social, writing that he plans to ask for the rehearing "IMMEDIATELY."

Under the Supreme Court's rules, parties in a case have 25 days to petition for a rehearing to challenge a judgement or decision based on the merits. But such rehearings have rarely been granted, and Trump's request would be a long-shot bid for a different outcome in a case that the court so recently decided.

Watching cubs with my son.  I mentioned MC hammer.  He had no clue who he was.

I said he was like the first internationally popular hip/hop artist and first really popular hip-hop artist in America.

https://www.reddit.com/r/90sHipHop/s/OfxOcgOqWM

Then I read him some posts.  This one is so true and I always tell my kids how smart phones have changed things so much.

"The thing about being young these days is it's hard to fully explain what being "big" meant in the late 80s to 90s.

There are no modern equivalents, the music industry is just different. There is too much, the media doesn't control the means of consumption as much. Back then you were fed a smaller stream of music. Radio, TV, Magazines, etc.

MC Hammer was so big your parents knew his music, you knew his music, your teachers knew his music, people in Turkey and Brazil knew his music, he had cartoons and shoes and pants and literally saturated every part of your day. You heard him on the way to school, your friends were all about him, you heard him on the way home, you saw him once you were home.

Pop stars don't exist the way they used to."

For a couple of years he was huge.  Pepsi commercials, Taco Bell commmercials, kfc commercials.  Had a cartoon.
The days go by slow, but the years go by fast.
