Democratic socialists oust another House incumbent and other takeaways from Colorado’s primaries

Democratic socialists struck another blow against the Democratic establishment on Tuesday in Colorado.,  29-year-old Melat Kiros  defeats incumbent Rep. Diana DeGette, who was first elected before Kiros was born, in a primary.

Kiros was the third progressive challenger to defeat a sitting House member in eight days, after two more won last week in New York.

The 29-year-old DSA-backed challenger ousted Rep. Diana DeGette, one of Colorado’s longest-serving Democrats, in the primary for the 1st District.

No Trumper she was an impeachment manager
Kiros launched her campaign nearly a year ago, framing it from the outset as a generational reckoning with the Democratic establishment. She cast DeGette, a longtime progressive who served as an impeachment manager against President Donald Trump, as a corporate-backed incumbent who was out of step with her constituents, and called for a new era of progressive leadership in Congress.

Progressive Manny Rutinel wins primary in battleground Colorado House district
Rutinel bested moderate former state Rep. Shannon Bird and will take on GOP Rep. Gabe Evans in the 8th District in November.

Progressive state Rep. Manny Rutinel will take on GOP Rep. Gabe Evans this fall, setting up a contentious general election in one of Democrats’ top pickup targets — and giving Republicans the candidate they hoped to face.

Rutinel defeated the more-moderate former state Rep. Shannon Bird in Tuesday’s primary for Colorado’s 8th District, bolstered by big spending from his campaign and its allies, including prominent Latino groups that see Rutinel as the best candidate to court the key voting bloc back to Democrats. The district is 40 percent Latino.

A fourth appeals court rejects ICE mass detention policy
A unanimous panel suggests the expanding legal fight is bound for the Supreme Court.

Denver based 10th circuit. 5 circuits ruled this, 2 for Trump and 4 pending

A unanimous three-judge panel of the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals concluded that the Trump administration’s unprecedented expansion of mass detention relies on an inaccurate reading of decades-old laws that had never been used for the breathtaking scope of the Trump administration’s mass detention effort.

“In our circuit, thousands of noncitizens are likely subject to mandatory detention under the Government’s newfound statutory reading and policy,” wrote Federico, joined by Obama appointee Robert Bacharach and Reagan appointee David Ebel.

Heading to the beach tonight.  I put a pork shoulder on the smoker last night around 11 PM at 225.  Should be done for dinner.  We can eat and take the leftovers with us.

They have a minor league cubs team at the beach.  We are gonna go see them one night (I've been watching the cubs them most days they play).  I got a 100$ top golf gift card at Costco for $80.  So we are doing 2 hours of that Thursday.  Going to the beach a day or two.  Should be fun.

My cousin is gonna be at the beach too.  She grew up in NY.  I hadn't seen her for probably over 10 years.  She and her husband are looking to move near to the beach.  So they are their two kids are down here.

Her daughter is in gymnastics and was down here in NC by us for an event.  So, we all went out for dinner Monday night.  I mentioned going to the beach and she said they were too.  So, I said I'd call her.  I asked for her number, but when I checked my contacts I already had it in my phone from 10+ years ago.

Maybe we will all go to the beach one day.

I bought a new meat probe (a thermometer) for my smoker.  Plugged it in last night. Wasn't working.  I sent Masterbuilt an email asking if they could send a replacement. Woke up at 6 AM and it is working.  I had to send them another email telling them to disregard my earlier email.

What part of we'd all individually and collectively pay less money for healthcare and achieve better results is difficult for you to understand?
Stop deflecting....Your post:  "It's not up to me to fund your social security."   My reply:  "I saved that money myself...Those that tamper with it
should be shot and burned to  erase all sembelencies of fraud in my nation..."
For the lawyer you claim to be, you certainly are not on track...

As far as health care goes, fund your own damn health care...

I can be wrong sometimes, just as anyone can be, but it's pretty clear in this instance people like you are wrong and also the cause of all this.

No, you foolishly paid for other people's retirement with all the money that they took out of your paycheck for social security.  That's how the program is structured.  The money current payees contribute is used to pay the benefits to current benefit recipients.

You should have demanded that the government let you fund your own damn retirement when you were working, instead of happily paying for other people's retirement with your money.

I am not as stupid as you.  So, go fund your own damn retirement!!! 😊  Turnabout is fair play.

It's about our potential.  We could be doing a lot better and have a sh1t ton more money to spend if we fix healthcare.  Everyone would have more money to spend.  The government isn't gonna tax all 100% of the 1.6 trillion a year we could save on healthcare.
