I have some big trees in the back. One of them is dead and tall. It's not rotten. Someone quoted 500 to chop it down if we chopped it up once it was down and they didn't have to take it away. I have a chain saw, but it's not big enough to cut through the base of the trunk. My engineer son told me to pass.
100 years ago a lot of trees in the forest in my subdivision were probably chestnut.
The going rate here is 1K to 2K per tree, cut and hauled. That's for a yard of course, tight to semi tight quarters.
