 City commission was/still is non partisan when mom was commissioner.
Ways it can screw you too if wanted to run.
Some jobs you can't hold partisan office. Heck at state I couldn't be a delegate past county convention

The way it's set up, it's almost set up to lead to complete randomness in terms of the quality of local leaders.  I am not sure how to fix it, either.  Most people don't want to spend time researching the local water commissioner.  It would be nice if we could perhaps give a quick indication of which candidate supports what, before people tick the box, but even that would probably be too much and how do you exclude discrimination and candidates saying nonsense that their blind loyal followers will swallow.

Lack of common sources do not help but if those common sources are not reliable that is not helpful either.

It's a disadvantage our system or any system where the population votes in the leaders and many can be so easily tricked.  A really great dictator who does everything right or most things right, if he is benevolent and not harsh, is most effective and gets you the best result.  The problem is, for those types of government systems it will be rare if not impossible for someone to be such a great leader and it will in turn produce a much worse subsequent dictators with absolute power, who will erase and subtract from what such a previous great leader has achieved.

I used to glance at Sunday papers in Joseph-Beth on Sundays from various cities.
 Home delivery got absurd cost more than out of machine for Lexington Herald
Want you to buy online.
 Now few days week mailed. Who wants to read news from 2-3 days ago
