In a beginners class most have the same fear. Once they begin to learn they lose that fear,at least in class.

 I once taught a social dancing class, most of my students took the class for the reason were tired of being wall flowers at parties etc. Most of them learned to dance well enough they were comfortable dancing at parties or weddings. 
Going on stage is an entire other story.
