As a child I was always taught to look out for those less fortunate.
So, I carried on with this tradition of my parents.
I thought I would wander over to the trail behind my back forty to leave some sandwiches for the homeless that I saw sleeping there.
I did this for several times a week.

Only to find later, they setup camp within 300 yards of my property line that borders onto park land - only two tents - I could live with that.
During the next few days, more arrived - now within 100 yards of the property line.
That following evening, they entered my outbuildings to retrieve air mattresses, lanterns, camp stoves and the like and creeped back off into the night.

Now, I'm a reasonable person and I give much to many, but this pushed my limits.
So, I decided to contact the City as this is a family-oriented neighbourhood with small children.
I don't have to be a rocket scientist to know that needles will be within my own grandchildren's reach.
They informed me that Parks are open to homeless from the hours of 7:00 PM - until 9:00 AM.
I replied with, "I'm aware of that legislature, but they are now living in my backyard, and the
homeless can remain in parks for shelter only, not permanent living conditions, and as a taxpayer I WILL protect my property when one intrudes upon it."
They were gone the next day.

So, now I'm back to feeding the ducks in the pond and the rabbits amongst the trails..
It is sad that sometimes when you try and help someone they or others take advantage of one's goodness. My husband is on a board of a homeless shelters and they have rules such as no drugs, alcohol and other rules. People complain about the rules but the lady who runs it says if she didn't have those rules, there would be chaos.
Living the best life possible!
