The North Carolina Triangle (Duke, UNC, and NC State) has a combined 14 NCAA basketball titles, with North Carolina having 6, Duke with 5, and NC State with 2.

I pulled for Duke all those years except one where WVU fell short of the national title game against Duke. I actually wanted WVU bracketed to where that game was the possible title game…

Got no beef with Duke, I like them but my focus went to XII once WVU went there….

I pulled for NC State to go all the way in 1983. They were ranked high to start the year but went through a regular season slump, won ACC tourney and the title. That was a memorable year, Houston gave them hell last game…

A class mate of mine was on that NC State team , 6'11 center Steve Smith , he didn't play much.

NC State had to win the ACC tourney in order to get in the big dance, they had 10 losses at end of reg season. They sure put up one hell of a show….

Gotcha. I was just a kid then, don’t remember the game but do know NC State was the country’s best that particular year and easily proved it. They were good the year before but was on probation and could not be NCAA eligible, something that school has had happen to them more than a couple times…

NC State ended a 6 year streak of UCLA championships. UCLA won the following two and that was it for that dynasty. UCLA was still good up until around 1980 and collapsed afterwards…

Had the 1 title over 20 years ago , beat Arkansas I think.
