I don't get the modern fascination of this movie's premise (No spoiler).

Reminds me more of an 80's B rated horror flick that you'd find on an overused VHS hiding in your parents sock drawer.

From what I was reading on IMBD, I guess the movie was made because fan petition to Kevin Smith on his podcast? (If I recall correctly).
