Generally speaking, when I hear about someone dying, the first thing that pops into my head is irritation and dread because I know I am going to be thrust into an emotional quandary for several moments, a moral struggle that deep down I know will end with me resolving not to let my conscience bother me when I finally accept that I never really intended on going to their funeral anyhow.  Dead people are a pain in the ass.... the upside, though,  is that that is last time they will burden you with their problems.
That's not helpful. Bad Karma.

Mother died last year, older brother died when he was 48, dad died when he was 49, grandma on New Year’s Day and I won’t give dates on here.
So is granddad, my great uncle and great aunt.

Not much left.
It's symptomatic of aging. And painful.

Quills....I'm really sorry to hear that. You know, I know, as many of us here do, how hard it is to lose a parent. That's too bad. Seriously - If you need to talk, pm me.

It wasn't that hard! She died surrounded by her family, in her own bed of 50 years and without hospice! Just as my father wished.

Keeping all the "money-makers" out of it was a bit of a challenge! Her GP hot pissed when I told him he was crazy! She had fallen and chipped a C-4, he wanted her sent to a surgeon! His immediate response: have you given up on "used her given name"...oh, you mean my my Mama...

From fracturing my own vertebrae, recovering from that at 91 would have been a horribly painful experience.

I'm glad you feel that way. Really.
I am. But when my mom passed, I can't say that I felt that way. I felt like it was the end of the world. We talked about politics, history, she wasn't just my mother she was my best friend.  And I felt like part of me had died.
So. No. I wasn't at peace. Pretty far from it.
And I never accepted it,and I never will.

My Dad was one of my heroes. He was a great man. He brought me up to think I could be anything I wanted. When I was in Middle School he gave me a book about Marie Curie to read. Ultimately, why I studied Physics and Math. In second grade when I came home and asked him a question that I had asked the teacher about subtracting larger number from smaller he told me that you could and you would get a negative number. I went back to school and told my teacher that you could - she promptly told me that I couldn't do that until I got older. We watched Skylab streak across the sky, lying on a hill in our backyard. He watched Star Trek with me when I was a little kid. I adored him and I miss him and always will.

Please, make no mistake! It was her time. I'm at complete peace and happy she's moved on.

You were so blessed to have her for almost 91 years. I lost mine when she was 67, 23 yrs ago and lost my father when he was 54, 25 yrs ago. You were very fortunate.

It makes me feel better that I can resolve conflict so quickly. That is one of the benefits of being self-actualized as I am.

That's how it is. My mom and I watched Star Trek.
My dad and I watched the moon landing.
He passed at 47. They say time heals. It just makes scars.

I didn't bother to get to know my father all that well. His interests neither coincided nor conflicted with mine so I didn't really pay attention to him.
But I know that he was an intelligent man  of wit, humor and  extraordinary ability.  When he died it was a relief in some ways. It kind of unchained me from a world I had grown beyond. Also, I inherited a sht load of money and that assuaged my grief.

Time has never really healed my heart, nor will it ever when your loved ones take a piece of your heart with them.
