I have a newspapers.com subscription. I always see train/vehicle accidents and people walking getting hit by trains back in the day. How on earth does that happen?? Trains go slow. I'd be willing to bet that the majority are suicides.
A lot of impatient people play chicken and some accidents occur in blind curves or in mountaious areas crossings next to a tunnel.
When I see lights flashing and gates come down I take no chances whatsoever. There are circumstances of branch lines where no gates exist and trains move slow but I know the differences between that and main line trains which go extremely fast....
