I did learn one thing. Kids were just as h orn y back then as they are now, maybe not so explicitly.
Get a cat. They also hate bugs.
Who gives a fck?
I'm getting a cat because I like cats. The bug eating is a bonus.
I watched a documentary about these Indian mummies in Peru. They dug this girl up and were examining her clothing and hair and talking about how she had been a human sacrifice. There was a contingent of angry Injuns that said the scientists had violate "sacred" ground and desecrated burial sites...blah blah blah... Fact is, I'd love it if some scientist dug me up in 800 years and started spinning a life story for me based on the lint in my pockets and gave me some stupid name. That would be so much better a way to be remembered than staying buried. I'd even like it if some frat boys in the future made a groovy candle holder or bong out of my skull. It's a tribute to whoever wrote those letters that you are reading them so long after the fact.
The guy that did the envelope art was writing home to his mom and dad (they lived here too at the time...the young girl's parents). He starts out by telling them that he's shipping out and that he doesn't know where he is going. He will write them when he gets to his destination. He tells his mom not to worry. The next letter details how rotten things are there and how he's there with a guy that he knows from back home. He assures his mother that he will be fine. I think there were 2 or 3 more letters after that and then he died at 19 years of age. He was an amazing artist.
"...Covid-19 deaths are accelerating, WHO warns, as world records most cases ever in a single week..."
Wars do this. That's what wars accomplish. I watched Saving Private Ryan yesterday. Then Hamburger Hill. Literally made me sick with sadness.
Is anyone surprised?
The amazing part is that there has never been a shortage of people who will sign up for it. Nor even a shortage of money/resources for it.
There are millions who still don't believe it is happening.
