I had an interesting day yesterday. I was digging post holes for the foundation of the new greenhouse and I kept hearing crazy hound dog barking coming from the conservation land that abuts my property. At first I assumed someone was just running their dogs back there (no one is supposed to be back there). The barking continued for hours until eventually two little beagle dogs strolled up onto my property. One of them is an adult and the other is about 4-5 months old. The older dog is wearing a collar with a name and TWO phone numbers. I called the numbers and got a man in Tennessee. It was his name and his number but he claims to know nothing about two beagles in Ohio. Weird. I can't wrap my head around how/why that might have happened. I googled the guy's name and he appears to show/breed/train coon hounds. I suppose it is possible that these dogs once belonged to him, but he didn't indicate during our phone conversation that he had any idea why these beagles might be wearing his collar. He didn't tell me anything about being a coon hound guy. I found that out myself. This, to me, points to the fact that he knew at least something about these dogs and neglected to share that info. But if you were trying to dump dogs why would you leave a collar with your name and number on it? It's a mystery...and I have two dogs that I can't keep. I'm going to have to call the dog warden in a few hours.
