I very much enjoyed your story, Mr Cowface, and I'm happy you and the Mrs. made it home safe and sound.

Welcome aboard, I look forward to other stories you may have.  Peace!

Thanks! I am happy to have found a night shift where people stay up at night to chat & post. Usually back on Topix when everyone else were going to sleep... I was just getting wound up. Those were lonely nights. I expect someone to stay awake with me here. That was back when I was working still... now I am retired and I am a night owl. Hang on!

I like to tell stories... and I don't like to be all about talking about myself... but most stuff happened to me. So it is not about me, but the people I meet.

I was hitchhiking in Florida back in the 70's when I stopped to take in some shade under a large shade tree in rural FL which looks nothing like the coast. Shortly a pickup truck pulled over and a man with a shotgun got out and yelled at me to move along or he was calling the Sheriff. I did so.

Later that evening up the road farther (or is it further) I caught a ride with this weird fellow. It was getting dark and I didn't want to ride with this "fellow" any further. So I asked him to drop me off at this upcoming orange grove I saw coming. So he did. I then proceeded to walk as far into this 200 acre orange grove.

I got in the middle of the orange grove when I heard this "fellow" yelling out my name. Why did I tell him my stupid name. I ignored the fellow and went further/farther into the orange grove and laid down for the night.

I awoke the next morning to blue sky's and glorious golden sun... laying on the ground where I had slept... I looked up and there above me hung one beautiful orange.

I looked around the huge orange grove and found that there were no other oranges on any of the other trees... only this one single orange hanging directly over my head.  So I picked that orange and had a glorious breakfast of it.

Moral of the story.... when weirdos may try to get you... do not stand for it... head to the middle of whatever shelter you can find.  Sleep safe... when you wake up... you will find safety... and a surprise for breakfast. Someone above watches over you always.

Wait... this is the night shift right? I used to work night shift... I was up all night doing that... reporting for duty, clocked in. Do people still have to clock in to work? Then it went to key fobs you have to swipe which logs your identity and time in & out.  I think they may have also scanned my sperm count and matched me with priority co-workers to spawn higher intelligence.

I remember back when we just walked into work... they trusted our time we wrote on a little time slip. Before that... we did nothing... the boss just paid us.

Hello Cowface, nice to meet ya.
Thanks Sly... you may have not have seen me on Topix... but like many here I saw & read your posts long ago along with Purple, Hey, Pete and most everyone here.  You will have then seen... my trademark style of writing by my keen whit LOL... and mostly I like to use three periods in place of commas.  I probably over-use this, but I don't care. Carry on. (also my trademark) For all the other plagiarism/imposters... that was not me.

So I am testing this thread out to see if it is really the "Night Shift"? If it truly is the night shift then there should be someone to respond to me at all hours of the night... and it is early yet. Testing... testing

So I am getting up now to check on the water faucet I set at a medium drip... so my water lines don't freeze up during the expected -06 degrees below temperatures tonight. I may be up all night guarding my water pipes from freezing. Anyone else up tonight? ZZZZzzzzzz

OK, unless they kick me off here I will keep talking... I can't sleep and no one else seems to be up... so much for the night shift.

I will tell you my weirdest story I have of all time if someone will wake up &  respond.

I was hitchhiking through Mississippi back around 1976. It was getting dark and no hope of any ride so I bedded down... where is another story. This story is about the next morning when I woke up. I awoke early and hit the road with my thumb. I stood awhile and many cars passed me by... but then a car pulled over... I thought to give me a ride. Instead, the car pulled to a stop in front of me and dropped a girl off.

I was stunned... this car pulled over, but instead of giving me a ride, he let a girl out.  The car drove off and there I stood with this girl!  She was young, attractive, and she was not wearing a bra. (us guys notice these things)

So I said hi to the chick and asked "what's up?".  She replied that she had been to a party all night with her boyfriend, but he did not have enough gas to get her home... so he dropped her off with me.

So we both stuck our thumbs out for a ride down the road which we soon were successful since I now had this attractive babe. A pickup truck stopped and gave us a lift for maybe 6 miles... which turned out was far enough for the chick... cause she got off in only a couple miles safe and sound, bouncing along... ladiday. Why her boyfriend couldn't have done that I will never figure out... some boyfriend.

I thumbed my way on up the road alone... much slower after that, but with at smile.

I am trying to wake up the night shift... it like only 1:30 in the morning and things are just now stating.

OK I will talk.... this is the weirdest experiance .... can't spell that right although I tried with auto spell like 10 timed and finally gave up. Don't know where I went wrong and after a few beers I don't care.

Important thing is I wanted to tell a weird thing... dang it took so long I don't remember any more.... thinking..... mmm?  oh

I am really trying to hold myself back here... someone help me. I feel very missled... I thought this was the night shift thread.... like for posters who were up all night.

NOT... it's just me again... welcome back topix, tipical... I am home again... with no one

Maybe I took the title of this thread "Night Shift" too literally? I took it to mean that. Can someone create a forum for me... us night owls who can't sleep?

Thanks! That was the most perfect rebutal/reply I have ever seen on Topix... I look forward to more communication when your movie is over... what time is that. And your sister Jules sitting next to Jim needs some supervision.
