I don't think anyone knows what chestnuts roasting on an open fire means.

I told my kids the same thing.

I have a few old chestnut stumps on my ranch that still continue to sprout every year and grow about 10 0r so feet high before the blight kills the sprouts.

I have some big trees in the back.  One of them is dead and tall.  It's not rotten.  Someone quoted 500 to chop it down if we chopped it up once it was down and they didn't have to take it away.  I have a chain saw, but it's not big enough to cut through the base of the trunk.  My engineer son told me to pass.

100 years ago a lot of trees in the forest in my subdivision were probably chestnut.

Power resides where people think it resides and nowhere else.  Alternatively, "Any man who must say, 'I am the King', is no true king.".

The going rate here is 1K to 2K per tree, cut and hauled.  That's for a yard of course, tight to semi tight quarters.

It's tall enough that if it fell the wrong way, it could hit my back deck and maybe my house.  That's also back where I want to build my hot tub deck and a-frame.  There are a lot of trees, but there is about a 20 by 20 area where I plan to build it.  I will want to address that dead tree before I do that.  It's nice and secluded in the summer with all the leaves on the trees.

I told my son he can do it, lol.  I'll buy a bigger chainsaw.

There is a small creek right behind my property.  We could cut it that way back towards the forest and not towards my house.

They were plentiful in NY where I grew up. I saw them somewhere in the past year and can't place it.

I had to cancel at least part of my trip. We had something come up with my 4 year old Grandson. Glad I'm here for him, my daughter, SIL and other Grandson.

That is not a bad price.   I know it seems like a lot but felling and cleaning up is a lot of work.

Here they generally go from the top down just to avoid expensive Oopsies.

Obama says U.S. may be ‘worse off’ now than before Iran war
The former president told NBC’s “TODAY” show he questioned the rationale for President Donald Trump’s war on Iran.

“We’ve now fought a war, spent billions and billions of dollars, you know, put enormous strain on our military. A lot of people have died. And it feels like we’re back where we were before we started the war, except maybe a little bit worse off,” Obama said in an interview with “TODAY” co-host Craig Melvin that aired Friday.

“I am very happy to see a ceasefire. And I’m hopeful that it holds,” said Obama, who questioned the rationale for the war on Iran.

The former president noted that under the Iran nuclear deal negotiated during his administration, “Iran had agreed not to develop nuclear weapons.”

“This administration, or a prior version of this administration, pulled out of it, which caused then Iran to develop more nuclear capacity,” Obama said.

Trump withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal in 2018, during his first term. That agreement laid out detailed steps that Tehran should take over more than 25 years with the aim of restricting Iran from obtaining or developing a nuclear weapon. The current MOU does not fully address the fate of the country’s nuclear program.

American Chestnut:

"Dominant species: Before 1900, ~4 billion American chestnut trees (Castanea dentata) grew across the eastern USA, about 1 in 4 hardwood trees.

Accidental introduction: Around 1904, a fungus Cryphonectria parasitica (chestnut blight) arrived with imported Asian chestnuts.

No natural resistance: Asian chestnuts had co-evolved with the fungus and were resistant. American chestnuts had none.

Fast spread: The fungus spread quickly through airborne spores, rain splash, and insects, infecting trees from New York outward.

Tree death mechanism: The blight girdled trunks, cutting off nutrients and killing mature trees above ground (roots sometimes sprouted shoots that also died).

Speed of destruction: Within 40 years (1904–1940s), nearly all American chestnuts were wiped out.

Ecological impact: The loss of a keystone species hurt wildlife, timber, and rural economies.

Restoration efforts: Breeding, genetic engineering, and biocontrol are ongoing to bring chestnuts back.

👉 Nature is fragile. We often don’t realize how our actions deeply harm ecosystems. Plants, animals, and insects are dying—often because of our ignorance."

That's what I told my son.  It's not an emergency right now and I have a lot of projects that I need to spend money on.

My kids said I should go back to tracking all my monthly expenses in excel.  I paid off the jet ski this month, at least.
