Girls are pretty easy...I could pull out a coloring book and crayons or bubbles. Head off a temper tantrum at the pass.
We used timeout. If you were put on timeout and you acted out anymore, I just added time. They learned quick that if I had already gotten to the point where I have had to put them on timeout and they are still gonna try to punish me by spazzing out even more, that all it would accomplish is sitting on timeout longer. I'd literally just say, "that's 5 minutes longer" and I'd if they still kept acting out after that ... I'd just say that's 10 minutes longer. So on and so forth.
I just had the belt growing up, and I was a good kid.
