Pardon my ignorance, but what are they for?

The best I can tell, it was just a family's decision to put these up in the hopes it preserves the grave site.

My cousin is a mortician in Nashville. He tried his best to get me to go to mortician school. I was interested until he said dead people don't observe holidays and weekends.

I use to do the grave digging 6ft holes , the grave sites are to close together to use a back hoe so they did them by hand... I think i covered up about 400 bodies before i realized it was killing me as well...

We have a few of those in our area. Lonely old graveyards that have been forgotten with time.

Yep. It's sad. I've recently gotten into tombstone preservation. Repairing broken stones, resetting and cleaning them. Smaller ones, nothing too big.

I would love the stories behind these old gravestones. Each one unique.

I see a lot of this too, mainly in black cemeteries. This cemetery is in the heart of town and is still very active. Sad!

Interesting stuff. Is there a particular place I could visit one day? Or would you bother with a recommendation?

I've been doing some genealogy lately and keep coming across relatives buried in Prince Cemetery in Lawrence County, KY. I'm not sure where you are located in KY, but wondered if you knew of this place. It is a Native American cemetery I believe. I am curious if it is accessible from a public road or if it is on private property. I'd love to visit.

Been to Jackson, when I was in college in McKenzie, which is now a university. Jackson has a lot of neat history to it.

My favorite professor was my History and Sociology professors. They were fantastic. The religion professor was a fun guy. You should send me their names privately, I may know them.

Mighty kind of ya. I do the same if I see anything broken, but some are beyond restoration out of being too madly damaged.

I don't know anything about this particular cemetery, but if you like, I'd be happy to do some research on it. I'm always willing to help out anyone doing family research! If you're interested, I'll PM you my email address and you can send me what you have.

Here's an example of one of my repairs.
Well, I don’t have anything that’ll do the same, but I have a friend that will sometimes come and fix them with either concrete, or I’ll help by putting on a very strong and weather resistant bond that usually does better than concrete. But as I said, some are too far gone for repairs.

Interesting! I’ll read more on this later in the day. But as of now I’m getting ready to go and get some basic needs, or I’ll starve. lol
Is it hard to become a member?

Not too bad. I apprenticed and was grandfathered in. What part of the world do you live in (general)? There may be someone not far from you.

Interesting history to the attached marker. I know one that had soldiers buried there from the revolutionary war and buried in a small colonial cemetery that’s since been abandoned in the middle of the wilderness. Nasty place because of bears and such, but nevertheless has its own beauty. However, because of the bears I’d never stay there overnight unless I’m in my vehicle which I’ve done once. lol

I think the link is broken, or FB wants me to get a profile, but I’m not interested in FB because of privacy issues and that’s a high caliber on my list of websites I’ll never attend, but it’s fine, no big deal.

Neat! Then I know somebody famous. ✌️

I only have two claims to fame. I'm a direct descendant of John Oliver. He was the first the first permanent settler in Cades Cove (Appalachia). And I'm related to Bettie Page. She was my grandmothers first cousin as their moms were siblings.

Say, doesn’t he have his own HBO series? 😂
Just kidding.
The members of my family go beck to the revolutionary war. Only fame I’ll claim here. lol

I put this one on my reading list and look at it more expensively later. Thanks friend 👍

My 3x Grandfather was a confederate soldier. The Tennessee State Library & Archives, sent me a copy of his pension application. (Any soldier who was wounded was eligible, no matter the side).
1. It was neat because I was reading his ACTUAL handwriting and 2, his answer to question 7.
See attached.
Needless to say, he application was DENIED.

Sad they didn’t grant him his request, but I haven’t gone into my family extensively enough to know the answer.
Looks like you’ve done your homework.

I started a little over 6 years ago. My paternal line beyond my grandfather was obscure, at least to us. So that was my focus starting out. Branched out from there. (no pun intended).
I've always been a history buff.

Awe cool! I like me some history too. Good to have commonalities with you and some of the others here, or we’d all be bored to tears, eh? lol
I’ve meaning to get back into the swing of our family history, but I’m unable to do so currently, so it’ll wait till I have the time again.
