Wilson picked up Manson cult members hitchhiking, leading to Manson and his followers moving into Wilson's Pacific Palisades mansion for several months.The bizarre entanglement featured several distinct events:The Takeover: The "Family" essentially took over Wilson's home, participating in heavy drug use (LSD), orgies, and draining the musician's finances.The Song "Cease to Exist": Manson, an aspiring musician, wrote the song "Cease to Exist". Wilson and the Beach Boys recorded a reworked version of it as "Never Learn Not to Love," using it as a B-side on their 1968 single "Bluebirds over the Mountain".The Fallout: Wilson altered the song's lyrics and title, and took full writing credit without giving Manson a royalty cut用aying him only a lump sum, a motorcycle, and some cash. This enraged Manson.The Threats: Other members of the band, including Mike Love and Bruce Johnston, visited the house and were disturbed by Manson's volatile behavior and cult-like control over his followers. Eventually, after Manson left a bullet as a death threat against Wilson's children, the drummer beat him up and abandoned the house.The violent cult leader never achieved the mainstream music connections he sought through Wilson, culminating in the tragic Tate-LaBianca murders committed by the Manson Family a year later.

He famously stated it "blew him out of the water," noting the record痴 brilliant orchestration, vocal harmonies, and musical invention. He also called "God Only Knows" one of the most beautiful songs ever written and expressed that it directly inspired The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
I have to disagree with Paul McCartney about 'Pet Sounds'. I find it is highly overrated.

It is common knowledge that Brian and Mike had lots of trouble. Most of the people I know always preferred Brian. I was in a Yahoo group and those people worshiped Brian and likened him to a god. (If not God) I took great delight in shocking them with my first,"I love Mike" post!!! My favorite has always been Mike Love!

« on: July 13, 2026, 10:12:23 am »Three of the original and core members of The Beach Boys are still alive: Mike Love, Al Jardine, and Bruce Johnston.The founding Wilson brothers have all passed away: Dennis drowned in 1983, Carl died of cancer in 1998, and Brian葉he band's primary mastermind用assed away on June 11, 2025, at the age of 82.

Yesterday, it was 1yr ago that we lost the incredible Brian. He was a gentle, sweet man who shared his genius with us all. He provided the soundtrack to my life. I will always treasure the music +moments we shared. I thank you. And Brian, you will always be missed. 💔

In the list of "250 Albums that Define America's Musical Journey" I was very pleased to discover that Surf's Up came in at # 100 and after all these years,"Pet Sounds" is still coming it at #1.Welcome Misty , that is a good album.
The master, Brian Wilson would have been so proud, may he Rest in Peace.
And I love Sloop John B. Which was recorded because Al Jardine pretty much insisted. Brain did the arrangements and it was included on "Pet Sounds" Became a great hit.
