What are grilled silver turtles? That sounds good.
I had to google after Blue Bird told me about them.

They are delicious....Here’s the recipe.

To make a turtle:

Lay out a rectangle of heavy duty aluminum foil that is at least a few times larger than all of your ingredients.
Form ground meat into a patty with the center being thinner than the outside, season.
Cut same-type vegetables into slices as uniform as possible.
Cut longer cooking vegetables thinner/smaller than quicker cooking.
Place meat patty in center of foil.
Cover with vegetables, season, and add sauce, if applicable.
Bring long edges of foil together until they meet in the center.  Fold foil over to create a sealed edge.  Continue to fold until you have almost reached the top of the vegetables.
Neatly fold open end of foil to seal.  Repeat folding several times until getting close to enclosed food.
Repeat on the other open end.
Should have a packet similar to what is in the first picture.
Place in coals (or on grill) and cook until done…checking one after about 15 minutes to see how fast your coals are cooking.
Generally it takes 20 to 25 minutes for an average size patty and packet to cook.
OR, you can place them in a 350 degree oven for 30 to 40 minutes, until done.

Sounds great, sounds like one I use to do except it was with green beans, potatoes and hamburgers on top called cowboy meal. I bet there are a lot of different names.

We’ve done silver turtles but we’ve used a variety of different meats and veggies as well as the hamburger. We use to just have a smorgasbord of stuff like steak chunks, chicken strips, smoked sausage, pork tenderloin pieces, all marinated and then have potato chunks, onions, peppers, squash, broccoli, asparagus, carrots, celery....and let everyone fix their own. After you wrap them, use permanent marker to put your name on them. It’s great with teenagers around. They tend to get creative and then they share their completed projects. LOL Throw a nice strawberry and spinach salad together and you’ve got a crowd pleaser.

I’m probably having left over Papa Johns pizza tonight and then tossing the remainder in the freezer for another day or possible to be forgotten and tossed at some point. 🤔

Just got some ground beef...I am going to make one tonite...Thx for the great idea....

You’re welcome! 🙂 I think you’ll like them! Btw...you can add any veggies you want... and I always spray a little Pam on the aluminum foil....helps keep the potatoes from sticking.

She loved it.  Even though she only ate spaghetti with marinara sauce and I had the soup and salad.

Its a great idea... The ground beef is thawing as we speak and my mouth is watering in anticipation....
picturing it in my mind I am going to love it.......

BTW have you ever heard of vegemite? Anyway, a teaspoon of vegemite dissolved in a beef stew makes it taste much more meatier....

Just saying

I’ve never heard of that... but will check it out! 🙂 How did your turtles turn out?

Decided on a quiet dinner at home and that was fine with me. Sometimes having that is more fun than going out.
