Here's a spooky story for you. In 2003,  I was going into my office to work. My husband's uncle had passed away in 2001 and we were in the middle of working on adoption paperwork to adopt from Ukraine. As I head into my office, a man passed by me who looked just like our uncle. I turned around and he was gone.  I thought maybe he had gone into the law office next door to us but they weren't open yet. Later that day, we got word that we would be traveling to go to Ukraine to adopt. I always thought he was sending a message that way.

Someone from the family probably made that one, eh? Looks like it anyway.

As kids we used to explore old graveyards in the hills.

My dad told me once at my great grandmothers burial. I was telling him the cemetery was spooky, he said, they won't bother you, they're dead. It's the live ones you have to worry about!

Due to economic circumstances in the black community, there was man here who made concrete markers at a much reduced cost. All the family paid for was the materials.  Here's an example.

Interesting and understandable being blacks were always kept dirt poor at the time. Nevertheless, those blacks that did this for the black community had a heart when others were heartless.

I've spent countless of hours surveying and photographing black cemeteries and the common denominator with them all is the poor condition of the cemeteries and numerous, most of the time the majority, of unmarked graves.  Even in active cemeteries.  It's really sad.
When in doubt, power out.

I’ve noticed this myself. Truly sad.

Local black cemetery in the heart of town. It's active and on the National Register of Historic Places. Sad

Damn. Very sad. Hopefully it’ll be restored to it’s former glory.

He is absolutely right! 👍 But....I’m still a chicken...so you’re not gonna catch me in a cemetery after dark! Lol! 😂
