The buck moon will peak at 4:37 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time Thursday, July 10, according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac. Since the sun will be up at that time, you’ll likely get a better view later in the evening.

The August full moon, known as the Sturgeon Moon, gets its name from the abundance of sturgeon fish in the Great Lakes during this time of year, making them easier to catch. Native American tribes, particularly those near the Great Lakes, traditionally used this moon phase to signify the best time for sturgeon fishing. It's also known by other names like the Green Corn Moon, Red Moon, or Grain Moon, reflecting the time of year and related agricultural activities
